Magpie is the youngest crew member, and often the most distant. Many aboard the Waak-Chrr are hesitant to interact with humans, and Magpie's nature has not helped with making positive connections. At best, he's seen as odd. At worst, he's just another cog in the company's machine that had the luck of ending up here.
Magpie's personality can be very quickly boiled down to his desire to look 'cool' in some regard. He acts distant and sometimes outright hostile, sacrifices practicality for flashiness, and speaks cryptically to try and shield himself from the world through a more 'desirable' persona. Underneath the shield, he's a shy, nervous, but ultimately kind person who is simply lost in a massive universe.
[WIP. Magpie is mentioned to speak cryptically in his personality, but im pretty on the fence on if he should have some kind of speaking 'quirk'. Like wortox's (DST) rhyming, Solas' (DAI) iambic pentameter, Zer0's (BL2) haikus, that sort of thing. Absolutely fits with his "im so fucking cool" persona but it also means that i have to write it. Until i decide on something im keeping this part blank.]
Magpie, real name Ani, was 17 when first contact was made. He spent the first years of his adult life watching as the world was thrown on its head, many panicking for no discernable reason. Already living in a world that was drowning it's newest generations in extreme living costs, Ani was now having to deal with the repercussions of the riots and fearmongering that had taken hold of the planet. It was impossible to make any concrete plans for the future with how quickly things were changing; the only plan that was viable was to simply survive.
Ani lucked out, as his parent's had friends working in Dyson Dynamics. He was able to get a job quickly working under the company, choosing to deal with the less than ideal conditions and simply being thankful for the time being. Things took a turn though, two months into his job- his boss sent him to deliver documents to a nearby company as an errand, and midway Ani realized that the documents seemed to have been bugged. He hesitated, his morals and fear of being fired in conflict, before deciding to finish the job. It took three more 'errands' like this before Ani finally brought it up with his boss. Not to stop them exactly, but to negotiate the ability to continue.
Things snowballed from there. His previous work responsibilities were slowly replaced with more errands and deliveries as his higher ups tested the waters. Trust was built, more work was given, the less guilt Ani felt, the more he worked. Eventually he was moved to a different company name under Dyson Dynamics, and was given the opportunity to travel to one of their stations. Ani, who at this point had chosen to go by Magpie, immediately accepted. He was in too deep at this point, and little was hardly going to stop now.
Magpie likes blunt and honest people, a complete opposite of himself that can see through the barrier he has up. People like himself, with muddy morals and tendency to be dishonest, he tends to avoid; Either because he's a hypocrite, or because it reminds himself of what he's become.
Magpie, quite genuinely, likes to draw and make music. He cant play an instrument to save his life, using music programs instead, and he keeps a sketching book with a lock that he fills with various pieces of art. He'd rather die than let anyone look at his art or listen to his music, though.
